Forgotton Anne - Realm Radio
1One of my favorite contributions to ThroughLine Games' gorgeous adventure, Forgotton Anne, came as a result of a slow, rainy day. The team had built a theatre space for use during the latter half of the first act but weren't sure what to put in it.
With nothing better to do, I wrote a couple pages of dialogue for an announcer-type character, heavily inspired by WWII-era Pathé news reels and the propagandistic "Would You Like To Know More?" segments from Starship Troopers (1997).
The team loved it, and lead writer Morten Brunbjerg named the literal radio voice Stan Haw, after Monkey Island's fast-talking Stan the Used Boat Salesman and Lord Haw-Haw, a pro-fascist British broadcaster.
And credit to voice actor Jay Britton who found a great balance of humor and seriousness in the reading. A lot of old time radio performances go "full Cagney"/over the top; Jay kept the tone right where it belonged.
Since the audio used in this clip plays in the background of various other scenes, I've done my best to compile it into a coherent stage show.
