Tiger 131 is a famous German Tiger I tank that saw service during World War II. It is significant because it is one of the few remaining operational Tiger I tanks in the world today.
Tiger 131 was manufactured in February 1943 by Henschel & Son and was assigned to the 504th Heavy Tank Battalion of the German Army. It fought on the Eastern Front during the war. In April 1943, during the Battle of Tunisia, it was captured by British forces in relatively intact condition.
After its capture, Tiger 131 was thoroughly examined by the British Army, providing valuable insights into the design and capabilities of the Tiger I tank. It was later used for training purposes and featured in various promotional films.
Today, Tiger 131 is preserved at The Tank Museum in Bovington, Dorset, United Kingdom. It underwent extensive restoration to operational condition and is occasionally run and demonstrated to the public. It serves as a unique historical artifact and provides visitors with a firsthand experience of the formidable Tiger I tank.
