WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a professional wrestling video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by 2K Sports. It is a spin-off of WWE 2K20. It was released on September 18, 2020, as the eighth game under the WWE 2K banner. Battlegrounds replaced WWE 2K21 for 2020, which was cancelled due to both the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the negative reception surrounding WWE 2K20 after its release in October 2019.
In 2019, 2K Battlegrounds' predecessor, WWE 2K20 received "generally unfavorable" reviews on all platforms according to review aggregator Metacritic. Reviewers criticized the physics, graphics, targeting, change in controls and the large number of glitches. In 2020, the game was rendered almost unplayable due to a "Y2k20" bug. Due to the number of bugs, player complaints lead to the hashtag #FixWWE2K20 trending on social media.
