This is a follow up to the Robocop video regarding Frame Generation or "fake frames" as they're sometimes referred to. I mentioned in that video how Frame Gen would be really useful in a game like Cyberpunk when using Ray Tracing but I had yet to actually try it myself. So let's check out Cyberpunk on the High preset at 1440p (with FSR3 on balanced) and Ray Tracing enabled with Frame Gen in use. I've played like this before and can tell you it was arguably unplayable without Frame Gen. But today, thanks to Frame Gen I would say we've gone from something unplayable to something that's honestly, perfectly playable! The Frame Gen itself doesn't seem to negatively impact image quality too much as long as your base frame rate is reasonable (maybe 40-50 FPS minimum) but does seem to fall apart at very low frame rates as seen later. But overall I'd say there's no major downside to using the Frame Gen and in fact I'd say I can't really notice any difference with it on for the most part. Again having Ray Tracing on, a higher graphics preset or less upscaling will give us a bigger boost to overall visuals than any minor degradation that Frame Gen would cause and for me (at the High preset) RT just wasn't realistically an option before. So all I can say is that Frame Gen has really opened up some high end options that just weren't really possible without it. Hard to argue with that.

But what about full on Path Tracing? Can Frame Gen help us there? LOL no of course not! We're way below the kind of GPU RT performance required for that! But it was still fun to give it a go! We got a very cinematic 24 FPS even with Frame Gen on before it inevitably crashed! No surprise here Path Tracing really does need a ton of compute power and a lot of vRAM too! You really do need (or at least want!) a top tier Nvidia GPU for this. Although that said I do believe a Radeon RX 9070 XT is able to pull it off too. But either way you need a LOT more GPU than I've got here!
