Replacing a Game Boy Save Battery (properly this time!)
Many years ago I made a video showing how to replace the battery in a Game Boy with sRAM (battery backup save)
The video was terrible! I used bare batteries without tabs and tried to solder my own metal tabs to the battery. This is not easy soldering anything to a big metal battery as the mass of the battery will try to quickly draw in the heat from the soldering iron (acting like a giant heatsink) and you really don't want to put that much heat into a battery!
Since making that video I had picked up these batteries that already have the tabs spot welded to them. These are much easier to work with and if you're doing these battery swaps you really should use these batteries with the tabs on them. They aren't expensive and are easy to get (even Amazon prime next day!)
So here's the new video made to replace that old video. I replace the original battery from 1993 in my SML2 cartridge. The crazy thing is this 32 year old battery still had a good charge! But I figured for the sake of making the video I might as well replace it now. I think it's one of the oldest Game Boy cartridges I have with the original battery in it that still holds a save.
