François Flameng Paintings!
10François Flameng (1856–1923) was a very successful French painter during the last quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th. He was the son of a celebrated engraver and received a first-rate education in his craft. Flameng initially received renown for his history painting and portraiture, and became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts. He decorated such important civic buildings as the Sorbonne and the Opera Comique, and also produced advertising work. Flameng was granted France's highest civilian honor, the Legion d'Honneur, and designed France's first bank notes.

François Léopold Flameng (* 6. Dezember 1856 in Paris; † 28. Februar 1923 ebenda) war ein französischer Maler.
Flameng war ein Sohn des Malers Léopold Flameng (1831–1911), von dem er auch seinen ersten künstlerischen Unterricht erfuhr. Mit Unterstützung seines Vater kam Flameng in seiner Heimatstadt an die École des Beaux-Arts (EBA) und wurde dort u.a. mit Pierre Hédouin Schüler von Alexandre Cabanel.
Bereits mit 19 Jahren wurde Flameng 1875 eingeladen, an der großen Jahresausstellung des Salon de Paris teilzunehmen. Sein dazu eingereichtes Gemälde „Le Lutrin“ wurde von der Jury lobend erwähnt.
1905 berief man Flameng als Dozent an die Académie des Beaux-Arts. Einige Jahre später wurde er dort als Mitglied aufgenommen und stand der Académie für einige Zeit sogar als Präsident vor. Kriegsminister Alexandre Millerand berief Flameng im Ersten Weltkrieg zum „offiziellen Kriegsmaler Frankreichs“. Durch diese Aufgabe wählte man ihn nach Kriegsende zum Ehrenpräsidenten der Société des peintres militaire français. In New York wählte die National Academy of Design François Flameng 1919 zum Ehrenmitglied (Honorary NA).

Flameng studerade hos Alexandre Cabanel och Jean-Paul Laurens, målade historie- och genreframställningar från 1700-talet och revolutionen. Tidvis arbetade Flameng även för Londons och New Yorks finansaristokrati. 1887-88 utförde han sitt främsta verk, 6 dekorativa målningar på Sorbonne.
