Did you know there is a free VR Rally Simulator game with HTC Vive and Oculus Rift support for Virtual Reality called Richard Burns Rally? Well, me neither - but in this video I´m about to try out Richard Burns Rally, and old Rally Racing game and great Dirt Rally VR competitor, in Virtual Reality thanks to a custom Open VR mod working on both Vive and Rift.

Disclaimer: Richard Burns Rally is not for sale anymore (in any online store), so among Rally Sim-communities online, it´s called abandon-ware without copyright holders. Having that said, I´m personally NOT giving you any direct links to download this game. I searched for hours for a legit place to buys this game, but could not find any. I´m not promoting any piracy, as I always support developers. If you find a legit place to buy this game, please let me and others know in the comments. Thanks.

Download links to the full game seems to be common and provided all for free. In the installation description below, I will give you links to the Richard Burns Rally Steam community page, where you can find the game for download. Also, I will provide the links to the RBR VR-mod as well as a Car Installation Tool giving you loads of extra cars to use in the game.

Richard Burns Rally is an old Rally Racing simulator and PC game from 2004, but in VR it´s got a brand new level of immersion and feeling. Being an old game, Richard Burns Rally still has quite impressive graphics, high level of realism and this game can without any doubt compete against big racing simulator games like Dirt Rally or Dirt 5.

Installation:
So how do we get Richard Burns Rally to work in VR on HTC Vive? Follow the steps in my video and you are up and running the game in Virtual Reality in no-time:

First of all: No, there is no place to buy Richard Burns Rally anymore, so we can only download it for free.

1. Download the Richard Burns Rally, provided in this Steam community discussion thread (around 1.1 Gb in size):

2. Extract the dowloaded .zip file and run the 'RichardBurnsRally_Setup.exe'. IMPORTANT: Make sure to install OUT of Program Files - (e.g. install to something like "C:\Richard Burns Rally", not "C:\Program Files (x86)\Richard Burns Rally")

3. IMPORTANT! Run 'Richard Burns Rally 1.02 Patch.exe', don't worry about location, it automatically detects where the game was installed to. You MUST install this patch!

4. Open your RBR install folder (that you downloaded), and copy the 'Plugins' folder here to the game installation folder, this adds the 'Fixup.dll' Plugin for RBR, so that widescreen and such works.

5. In your RBR install folder, open 'RichardBurnsRally.ini' and do this:
- Set 'XRes' and 'YRes' to your desired screen resolution, fir example:
XRes = 1920
YRes = 1080
- Remove this line: ConstantForceMultiplier = -60
- Change "RunIntro" and "RunStartup" to false (instead of true).
- Change Fullscreen to false

6. Download the RBR VR mod (latest version 1.5) from here:

7. Extract all content from the .zip file into the game installation folder.

8. Start up Steam VR and wait until all is green (Vive controllers not needed, but can be used as well)

9. Start Richard Burns Rally from the installation folder by double clicking the file RichardBurnsRally_SSE.exe file. The game will start automatically in your HTC Vive headset (and probably in your Oculus Rift headset as well if you got one instead).

10. Enjoy Richard Burns Rally in Virtual Reality! :)

OPTIONAL
If you would like to install custom cars to Richard Burns Rally:

11. Download the RBR Car Installation Tool from here:
https://github.com/zissakos/RBRCIT/releases

12. Extract all the content from the -.zip file to your Richard Burns Rally installation game folder.

13. Run the RBRCIT.exe and you can start downloading and installing extra cars as much as you want for free. Check my video how I do it, and you will understand - its very easy! Make sure to save your settings in the Tool before you quit or start the main game.
