Yes, you've read it correctly.

Thanks to Lafiel, FreeSpace 2 Open has received a working VR feature.
You can either download the test build from the URL below or install it via Knossos:

A few bugs still need to be fixed but the overall VR experience really is fantastic already.

OpenXR is supported through the SteamVR and Oculus Runtimes.
If you have a Windows Mixed Reality Headset like the HP Reverb G2, you'll have to set SteamVR as your standard OpenXR runtime as WMR doesn't support OpenGL properly at this time.

For the best experience of playing FS2 in VR, I recommend installing the following mods:
fightermedic's Cockpit Mod
MjnMixael's HD mainhalls
FreeSpace Upgrade MediaVPs

Note:
Due to some messed up keybindings, I accidently fired missiles when I wanted to engage the afterburner.
So I had to reconfigure my controls accordingly.
