This is a standard laser frenectomy, AKA frenulectomy, on the maxillary labial frenum.

The procedure is performed for many reason, but in this case the patient's maxillary labial frenum (the tissue connecting the gums to the lip) was too large and pushing apart the two front teeth. By removing the excess, we can use braces to close the space, and it will be more likely to remain closed.

The patient was anesthetized using local anesthetic, and the procedure took less than five minutes! As you can witness, the patient tolerated it very well and couldn't feel a thing. The wound typically heals quickly (within a couple days) with minimal discomfort compared to the same procedure using a scalpel.
