What You Will Need:
5 ½ Cups of all purpose flour
1 Cup of milk
1 Cup of warm water
2 Tbsp of sugar
1 Tbsp of salt
2 Tbsp of butter
2 tsp of dry active yeast
1 Tbsp of oil (olive, vegetable, etc.)

Instructions:
Step 1. Combine the yeast and and warm water in your mixing bowl. Cover and leave for 10 minutes to activate

Step 2. Melt the butter and combine with the milk, sugar, and salt. Add to the active yeast mixture. Add 1 Cup of flour and stir.

Step 3. Add 4 ½ Cups of flour to the mixture and combine until it’s a clumpy texture. If using a mixer simply attach your dough hook and set to speed 2. Allow to knead for 8-10 minutes. If kneading by hand you can find lots of tutorials for technique online! The dough should be soft, smooth, and spring back when you push into it.

Step 4. Form the dough into a ball, oil the mixing bowl/dough and allow to sit covered with a clean towel for about an hour. The dough should be roughly doubled in size.

Step 5. Pull out the dough onto a floured surface and knock back the air from the dough. Split into roughly two equal portions (or you can weigh into exactly equal amounts). Form into rounds and allow to rest for another 10 minutes.

Step 6. To form the loaves flatten the dough into a roughly rectangular shape. Fold the top third down and the bottom third over top, pinching the seams. Press down in the middle and fold in half pinching the new seam.

Step 7. Place the dough seam down in your greased loaf pans, cover, and allow to rise for 45 minutes to an hour. The dough should rise above the sides of the pans.

Step 8. Heat your oven to 425℉ (218℃) and make a cut along the tops of the loaves with a serrated knife. Place the loaves in the oven and immediately turn the temperature down to 375℉ (190℃). Allow to bake for 30 minutes.

Step 9. Remove the bread from the pans and allow to cool on a rack. If your loaves are baked correctly they should sound hollow when you knock on the bottom of them. Enjoy!
