Friday Night Funkin' Chart: Scars of FAUNA (猫叉Master)
Just a chart I made for fun of Scars of FAUNA by 猫叉Master (Nekomata Master). Some more ramblings about it below.
The impossible has happened, and I've actually played a game outside of LPs. Think I'm mostly done with it, but it was weird playing something for leisure again after all these years.
It's a joy how easy it is to make custom content for this game, so I decided to try my hand at a chart. It's a little awkward without a vocal track, but that would be way more work to add in. I originally figured that the main reason everyone made _new_ music for this game was a combination of showing off and avoiding any legal issues regarding distribution (both very good reasons), but I've realized through this that making good charts for existing music is also kind of hard. Not much music fits the FNF call-and-response style that well, and you have very little control over the actual position of notes, leading to tracks like this where it suddenly jumps between insultingly easy and actually pretty hard (I _could_ spend another hour practicing this to get a better run of it on camera and avoid the embarrassment of a crap performance of my own chart, but I don't think it's worth it). You also have to listen closely and place the beats instead of being able to look at the piano roll or something of music you made yourself as a guide.
I've also begun to see why most modders use altered versions of the game's engine, as the vanilla one (which I used) has some pretty big limitations. The worst here is that the chart is divided into 4-beat "sections," whose length can't be changed and who determine the maximum length of a held note. I ended up setting the tempo to 1/2 of what it should be (notice GF in the background nodding her head really slowly compared to the drums), just to hold the notes longer and be able to look at more than a couple notes at a time since you can only see one section at once, but it led to me having to hand-place a lot of 1/32 notes that don't fit on the grid.
Still, I love a lot of Nekomata's music, so it was fun to make something for one of their tracks.
(maybe I should've chosen an opponent that wasn't waving a weapon around that I had to mark this video as containing)
