A rich and immersive story that really draws you in and keeps you coming back for more.
The Morale System. Not only will you have to keep the character alive, but you also must maintain their mental health.
Little to no hand holding. You will have the ability to find all the resources you need to solve every puzzle in the game. Just sometimes you may have to think outside the box a bit.
Hunting, fishing, and gathering.
Rockclimbing, there's not always an easy path to your destination.
Sandbox mode, with permadeath! How long can you survive?
Dynamic weather, wildlife, and time of day. All these factors will impact the overall health of the character.
Community driven features! As a community you will be helping us steer this game. All feedback will be taken into serious consideration.
So much more to come!
Fringe Theory spawned from the desire to create a game that has a deep and immersive story, inventive survival gameplay, and beautiful graphics. As a team we want to build a game that doesn’t shy away from serious issues. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is something a couple of our team members have had direct encounters with. We hope you’ll join us on this journey, it’s going to be a plethora of fun.
There’s no easy way to explain what a mental condition like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is. But even though we cannot make the player experience PTSD, we’ll make him understand it - through gameplay. The storm washed two of you onto an island where a war was raging some 70 years ago. Every step you take reminds you of your Middle East deployment. Everything here is out to get you, but you are your own worst enemy, the biggest threat to yourself . When PTSD psychotic episodes happen, the result can - and will - be messy. You’ve lived with this for quite some time and have learned to cope some, but now you're without your medicine. But there’s two of you in here, supporting each other - so talk to each other. Every bit of normal human contact is therapeutic. It’ll make things easier if you find some radios. You don’t like darkness, or small spaces, and there’s a whole lot of them on the island, and you’ll be forced to go there. Wherever you go - bring a light with you, “for the night is dark and full of terrors”.
It’s all about keeping your spirits high. Find food, drinkable water, a safe place to lay your head, make a fire, get enough rest, change tasks often (but not too often) or solve one of the mysteries of this island - and you’ll be okay. In other words, evade stress at all costs. Stress lowers morale, and you lose your focus when on the edge - you fail at the most common tasks, you can’t think straight, you can’t see straight, and your morale drops even lower. You know what happens next.
Although in single player mode you can switch between characters anytime, the game will feature cooperative play. Be it sandbox or story mode, we are planning to give players the opportunity to play together - online or locally via split-screen, with second player being able to drop in-drop out anytime during the game and substitute for AI controlling the second character.
