"Practice" from Frogger: Ancient Shadow is originally composed by Hironobu Yahata, Shinya Ohtouge, and Tatsuo Yokoyama. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Ohhhh boy. This cover was an interesting one. For starters, the January 2021 Pixel Mixer's contest theme was "Konami vs Capcom" - which allowed you to choose a theme from any game produced by either of those two publishers. Now I have a confession to make - I haven't played that many games from either of these franchises (I'm very much a Nintendo Boy^TM), and was initially struggling to think of something first. However, I remembered playing this *really obscure* Frogger game on PC around 2006 or so. Turns out, Ancient Shadow is that game (I didn't remember the title so I had to do some searching there). This game was actually pretty difficult, and of course 7 year old me didn't know how do much of the tricks nor solve the puzzles; I only got to like the second level - and of course this track being "Practice" means it was the tutorial stage. When I was arranging this, I knew I wanted to go for a very acoustic and New Orleans style of jazz. The bass is by far the most important part of this soundtrack, so I needed a funky bassist to help me out here. Luckily Xander (from ZeldaRocks) came to my rescue, and did a fun and grooving job. I also wanted to feature all the auxiliary percussion instruments I've bought over the past year, so this was finally my chance to do it (most of my covers don't really go beyond shaker and tambourine). Lastly, I wanted a really greasy trombone solo, and I was looking for a collaborator for a few days. prich3rd then sent me a DM, and WOW did they do a fantastic job. Their growls especially made this fun and lively, so I commend them. Also this happens to be my first time doing anything with VOCALS (even if it was just a 1 measure solo) - who knows when that'll happen again. Anyways, enough talk. This whole project was super fun and we hope you enjoy this cover!
