"In The Morning Sun" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky is originally composed by Arata Iiyoshi, Hideki Sakamoto, Keisuke Ito, Ryoma Nakamura, and Kenichi Saito. I do not claim any ownership of the composition - only the arrangement and the audio.
Hey everyone, Sean here and here to present my #SoundoleChillOut2021 cover - In The Morning Sun from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky featuring Tiggs! This is one of the most fun arrangements I've done yet, since it's my first time featuring a vocalist, as well as my first "large-scale" percussion arrangement. As you may know, PMD music has an extremely special place in my heart, and this soundtrack is no exception. I knew that Tiggs was a huge PMD fan as well and an OUTSTANDING vocalist, so I reached out to her back in March to do a collab on this (originally for voice, marimba, vibraphone, and glockenspiel) - and she said she would consider it if she wasn't busy (thankfully her schedule opened up in May after she finished finals).
As I was arranging the piece... I came to realize that the lowest note was a G - while the marimba my school has is only a 4.3 octave (going down to an A), so I extended the arrangement to include piano and chimes for range and color (which was just a wise choice overall). I'm lucky that I got to hog the band room at my school from May 4-6 - since finals had ended a week earlier, so I basically had free reign (since nobody else would be using it). This wasn't the only thing I recorded over that session (which will be a surprise later), but this definitely took a significant chunk of time (as well as a few blisters). After Tiggs' schedule freed up, she was able to record her audio, and man did she NAIL her parts. I obviously am not a vocalist, and have never written for vocals before - but her experience definitely made my job very easy - as well as providing a ton of feedback on arrangement and mix drafts. Anyways, I am super happy with how this cover came out, and we hope you enjoy this entry as well as the rest of the entries in Soundole's Chill Out Contest 2021!
