Update: Thank you to Nayana for pointing it out. It seems I missed out an important point on the sports day event as the information I presented did not mention the bug that occured within the first two hours of the event that resulted in event rewards being 1/5 of the stated rewards as well and the stuff they gave out was meant as a compensation for this as well. From a game designer standpoint I find the dice board event they introduced for this in-game event to be generally not as good of an event style as it creates a disparity in the type of rewards players may get and makes it harder to clear all rounds for some player over others which in a game that charges for stamina refuels could cause a potential bad game experience for some players over others. Coupled with negative reviews of the event on some jp message boards regarding this prior to the event changes I made the video with this as the main point instead and neglected to mention the bug in the first two hours of the event. My apologies for missing that out and thank you for taking the time to read this.

That said my opinion on the point on this event being a good entry point and the character hook to get people in still stays the same as the rewards, marketing push on social media and released characters did play a large part nonetheless.

It may seem unbelievable to some considering how well the game is doing nowadays but Blue Archive actually started with quite a rough launch and it took the game quite a while to actually turn things around.
