Welcome to the final mission of the Terran Campaign and oh boy, it's still quite something even up to now.
[MISSION X: THE HAMMER FALLS]
- Destroy the Ion Cannon
- Raynor must survive
The good news about this mission is that the starting area has a lot of resources so build up your tech tree with the resources you'll get from your starting location. Set up bunkers to your north and to your west to fend off attacks from Alpha Squadron (White) and the Elite Guard (Red). Have Raynor also set up a spider mine in the North to surprise enemy Ghosts if they attack early. Just not too north, there's enemy units there including a siege tank.
Now for the enemy forces. The Elite Guard (Red) usually attacks with ground units and Alpha Squadron (White) prefers aerial units and ghosts using nuclear strikes. I went with destroying the Elite Guard's base because they seem to attack more often for me and then taking over their resources.
However, attacking any of the two enemy bases is optional - I just went with it since this will lessen the pressure on me. There are also expansions in the center and far north of your starting position but these are just right outside Alpha Squadron's base so be sure to defend them well. A mix of turrets, goliaths and siege will do if you plan to take them. Again, be on the lookout for ghosts coming from the enemy base in the northeast.
The mission objective is in the northwest corner of the map - The Ion Cannon, destroying it will clear the mission. An ideal strike force against the Ion Cannon's defenses are Battlecruisers and ground units (Marines, Goliaths and Siege Tanks) ferried by Dropships. Just watch out for the ghosts stationed there as they're very Lockdown-happy.
