Frozen Mines Walkthrough - Odallus: The Dark Call 100% Walkthrough
13This video shows how to beat the level & get all 4 secrets as well as the unmarked 5th secret.
Skull Transporter #1 (0:08): Found by going to the right at the level's start.
Secret #1: Runestone (0:24): Near the start of the level you'll need to descend through some spiky crevices. At the end is a vortex. Instead of taking the vortex, break through the wall next to it. Ride the mine cart, go to the right, & drop down for the Runestone.
Unmarked Secret (1:00): Go through the level until you reach the Save after the wall faces with ice breath. Go left at the Save & break through the wall. Continue to reach the Symbol Room & the Shadow Knight. If this is the 3rd symbol room you've found the knight will initiate a fight.
Shadow Knight (1:16): He only has a few attacks. The 1st is a quick sword slash (dodge). The other 2 attacks require him to power up first. Once he does he'll either shoot a white blast straight above him resulting in 5 thin beams of energy coming straight down where you're standing or he'll have some flames circling around him (which protect him from damage). Aside from these attacks he likes to follow you around the arena & jump. This can be annoying because he likes to move beneath you as you're trying to land. To avoid that, move back & forth as you're falling through the air.
His weakpoint is his entire body & he can be hurt at any time except for when the fire protects him. Quickly slash him then immediately dash out of the way to avoid his returning slash. A good time to attack is when he does the charged attack into the air.
Defeating the knight gets you the Dark Armor which allows you to perform a charged attack at the expense of 10 sub-weapons.
Secret #2: Heart Piece #1 (2:45): Go through the level until you reach the part with the 2 blue enemies that throw icicles. Shortly after them is a mine cart. Ride it & prepare to quickly jump up to a track on an upper level. Keep to the upper path to reach the level's 1st Half-Heart.
Sub-Boss: Danny the Penguin (3:29): I use the Wail on Him Until He's Dead strategy to kill Danny in this video, but if you'd like a more skilled strategy then see the video linked below. The wailing on him method is a decent way to kill him.
Danny's attacks include spitting several ice balls at you (dodge), surrounding himself with protective ice crystals (hit several times to destroy, but be aware they cause damage if they touch you), sliding back & forth across the floor (jump over), jumping around the arena (dodge), blowing ice breath which creates an ice wall that launches toward you (dodge), & spinning to create a tornado that sucks you toward it. For that last attack the best way to dodge it is to jump on top of the spikes on either side of the arena. If you're on the same side Danny is on then you don't have to do anything, but if you're on the opposite side you'll need to repeatedly dash away from him otherwise you'll be pulled off (& be damaged in the process from touching one of the spikes).
Hitting Danny anywhere will damage him so long as he doesn't have the ice crystals protecting him.
Skull Transporter #2 (3:45): The 2nd transporter is found immediately after the penguin Sub-Boss. You have to actually use the shortcut in order to unlock it for future use.
Secret #3: Heart Piece #2 (3:15): Right after the gate that requires the key are a couple pickaxe throwing enemies. Above the 2nd pickaxe guy is a path to the left. Take it & continue until you're on another mine cart. You'll need to pay attention. Once the cart drops down & starts going to the left you'll need to quickly jump in order to keep going left where the arrow is pointing. Be careful though because jumping too early will cause your cart to go down the track to the right. Once you successfully make the jump at the arrow keep going until you reach the level's 2nd Half-Heart.
Secret #4: Weapon Bag (6:44): After the part with the 2 ice bear things there'll be another mine cart ride. This time don't do anything at the arrow (i.e. DO NOT jump). You'll fall down onto a lower track where the Weapon Bag is.
Boss: Pretty Mouth (9:05): It stomps to create 1 or 3 shock waves on the ground (jump over them), it walks up to you (being against the wall is safe), blows ice breath on the ceiling to create spikes that fall when you go underneath them (make 1 or 2 fall by walking to the right then dash toward the wall), blows on the ground to create an ice crystal that it stomps on to launch several crystals at you (hit with your sword), & lastly makes icicles appear on the entire ground (jump into air until they disappear).
To damage it, hit it's face several times as it walks up/away from you until a lady appears from it's mouth. Hit the lady tongue. Keep doing this until defeated.
