Fuel Lines: Size Matters
Working on a classic turbojet engine, out of a Canadair Sabre 6, I was impressed by the size of the fuel line.
It seems out of proportion if you compare it to what you see working on piston-powered vehicles, don't you think?
In response to questions about water removal:
It would be an extremely unusual sequence of events that would allow an amount of water that might affect the running of a jet engine ( a liter/quart, maybe?), and would interfere with the starting process.
Maybe it could pool in one tank that was switched to in mid journey.
Quality of fuel is critical, and refueling procedures reflect that.
I guess anything is possible, but there is no mention of water contamination of fuel in any of the engine troubleshooting manuals I've ever seen.
Info:
The Sabre 6 is a license built in Canada version of the North American Aviation F-86 Sabre
At full power the Sabre burns about 20 gallons per minute of fuel.
I've made quite a few videos about the Sabre Jet and the Orenda engines that power them.
Also I've featured the J-47 engine that powers the American F-86. There is a search bar on my channel page, and I will also be adding this video to a playlist on the Orenda turbojet.
