In this chapter, Gabriel awakens in his bed after the terrifying events of the previous evening, and learns that Grace had rescued him in the nick of time. Calling his uncle Wolfgang in Germany, he learns about the true meaning of the word Schattenjäger, understands that his family has a destiny that he is unable to change, and discovers that the only way to rectify things is to recover the Ritter family talisman, which is now the main source of power for the Voodoo cartel and is probably buried along with Tetelo's remains. To understand more of what is going on, he travels to Rittersberg, Germany, only to discover that Wolfgang had suddenly left his castle and left Gabriel to be entertained by his servant, the lovely, but clueless Gerde. Exploring the castle, Gabriel discovers the rules for the Schattenjäger initiation ceremony - and takes on the decision to undergo the procedure, without as of yet properly understanding what it is that he is signing for.
