28The island off Vancouver Island is called Gabriola, there's a small township there and things to do in the summer, but more importantly we went to relax and get away from the city. The views were awesome!

Gabriola Island
Gabriola Island is one of the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia in British Columbia (BC), Canada. It is about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, to which it is linked by a 20-minute ferry service. It has a land area of about 57.6 square kilometres (22.2 sq mi) and a resident population of slightly over 4,000.
Gabriola has public beaches and forests, shopping centres, restaurants, a library, an elementary school and a museum. Its is known as the Isle of the Arts due to its high percentage of working artists, and its many cultural events include annual festivals related to art, poetry, gardens, music, boating and fishing. The Gabriola Arts Council produces three large annual events: the Isle of the Arts Festival (April), Gabriola Theatre Festival (August) and Thanksgiving Studio Tour (October).
Malaspina Galleries
One of Gabriola’s main natural attractions for the past century and a half is the rock formation called the Malaspina Galleries. The sandstone rock along the coastline has been eroded by surf and frost and creates the illusion of walking underneath a frozen wave. The Galleries have been a destination dating back to the Snunéymuxw , who used them for cave burials, day-trippers from Nanaimo who enjoyed picnics under the overhang, teenagers who enjoyed jumping from top of the formation into the water below, and geologists studying rock formations.
