Nestled in the comments of that video is a very helpful infographic that illustrates how the hermit crabs work, which turned out to be very important for the run. Manipulating them to optimize EXP gains helps you stay above the level curve quickly and efficiently, and it can't be overstated how valuable the extra levels are since they increase both your damage and survivability.

I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, though I blundered pretty hard on Los and the Third Key. I was about ready to scrap the run after losing my elixir on Waxman, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Playing extra safe on the last stage paid off, and I finally got my first completed run. I definitely want to come back to this one in the future and improve my time--maybe one day when this game gets brought to modern platforms? *wink wink*
