Battle Unit Zeoth is a shoot-'em-up that alternates between horizontal and vertical levels. The player is able to shoot in four directions; up, down, left and right. Button B is a rapid fire and Button A fires your boosters. (more ▼)

The graphics are well detailed for an early Game Boy game and the music is catchy and energetic. The bosses are huge, though with a fully powered-up weapon, they are pretty easy to beat.

Speaking of weapons, you have 2 choices; the default single-shot, which powers-up to 2-shot and finally 4-shot, and the laser, seen in the 3rd & 4th level. Once fully powered up, it seems to me like the default shot is the way to go. It covers a large area of the screen and seems to be at least as powerful, if not more so, than the fully powered up laser.

You only have one life and then it's game over. However, there seem to be unlimited continues, which start you at the beginning of the level you died on.

I picked up Battle Unit Zeoth yesterday knowing nothing about it. It had a cool looking Robot on the label. Because there isn't a whole lot about this game on the internet, and a lot of what I found regarded the game negatively, I wanted to post my thoughts about it. This game is a real hoot and I encourage anyone who is a fan of shoot-'em-ups, Robotech (it doesn't have anything to do with Robotech, but it definitely has that vibe), or games like Forgotten Worlds and Side Arms to give it a shot!

Gameplay was recorded using the actual cartridge on a a Super Nintendo via the Super Game Boy to a DVD recorder.
