In a lot of ways, it's only natural that this should end up being a lot like my Labo videos, although I don't know how interesting those actually turn out to be... since those are mostly me fiddling around with cardboard offscreen. I'll admit that the detailed modeling and the nifty interactive instructions are pretty nice, but I don't know if they can really sustain anyone's interest by themselves in a vacuum.

On the other hand, this is all taking place on the screen, and you can see everything I'm doing to interact with the odds and ends contained within as I follow the directions, so it's far more direct and to the point.

There's also a lot less waiting around, because the directions don't apply to something as cumbersome as the real world and its physical limitations. This is all going on inside the machine! No organizing or cleanup or any of that nonsense!

...and even if you somehow found this whole procedural process to be a bore, it's much shorter (so far) and it wouldn't even be all that difficult to skip out on entirely if you didn't like the look of it after all...

Also, c'mon, it's games. Games are what I do. How could I not?! NOT somehow turning it into an outlet for my fascination in the parts that happen behind the scenes and below the surface would actually be the WRONG thing to do, right?!

So, yes, I'm totally giving my unbiased and trustworthy opinion as though it were fact: this upload series is definitely fine and nobody could possibly complain about it in any way whatsoever!

Now that I've written it, it's corroborated and is totally fact. Can't change it. You don't have write permission on this one!

(Just be careful, because I've actually ben into this kind of thing before I knew anything about the actual technical witchcraft that pulls those strings from the shadows... ... ... that means... this could actually be jus the beginning down a dark and twisted path indeed... ... ... we're all doomed!)

Lesson 1: Tag Showdown
Step 1 - Adding Player Controls

Oh yay, it's Bob again. Does anyone else find him... kind of... exhausting?

I mean, granted, his enthusiasm is the whole point. It lets them smooth over any rough patches and point excitedly at the end results, eagerly prodding any and all comers towards the goal, because... at the end of the day, this is software written by people who do this kind of thing for a living. At the top levels on down, this represents a facsimile of a thing that they do for a reason. That they do with passion. It's only natural to want to make sure to impart as much of that as possible as they're trying to guide people down that same path.

Naturally, someone with a writing acumen got involved along the way... and then that has to go double for the localization. And the presentation at large...

Man, you don't actually have to tell ME why this stuff is exciting... and I've even got a little bit of experience in the parts where you've got to write about stuff you're interested in (you're reading something like that right now!)... AND maybe I know a thing or three about the challenges of trying to impart something along those lines upon an impressionable audience... but I've never actually considered taking the three or four steps back to consider just how insane it is that this software and its contents exist at all. Much less on a popular home console handheld hybrid that prints money just by having stuff churned out for it... ... ... but a passion project about passion projects to ignite people's passions? That's... hold on, I think my keyboard's getting dizzy...

Hopefully even an iota of any of that actually reads through the screen. Much less through the screen you're watching a recording of MY screen on.

... ... ...am I... actually this exhausting? I want to be an Alice, but I think I'm probably just a Bob. But with more words! So I'm the overly verbose Nodons with enforced character shtick!

... ... ...

Let's just do the lesson, I think. Is that... okay?

I don't want to be a Bob about it, but... this is basically the same as the intro with the button press resulting in jumping actions becoming possible. We even got to see the Stick Nodon attached to the working model game in the 101 introduction. Only this time, we're expected to put it together ourselves... with a little hand-holding direction along the way.

Personally, I'm a bit distracted and overwhelmed by some of the options we're being presented that we're NOT interacting with... although it'd be hard to pretend like I'd be satisfied with ANY number of prefab cookie cutter options... but for the size and scale and scope this software is promising to be, that's still impressively overwhelming all the same.

Hopefully there's nothing problematic about how I wasted most of the description on ancillary nonsense instead of the lesson itself.
