I'll check YOUR point, you bubbly little dot thingy!

Oh, wait. You're not Bob. This wiggly dot is much calmer and more relaxed. She's apparently Alice. Okay then.

To be fair, Bob's explanations are kinda... sketchy. They're not BAD, but they're often lacking in detail or finesse, more interested in getting to the point... um... MOST of the time. He'd be the one to go to if you're just trying to get an overview of what's going on and what it all ultimately means. That's a good thing. This is a very dense subject matter, and not everyone will be coming at it with much of an understanding from the get-go. But they hopefully WILL have plenty of enthusiasm!

On the other hand, Alice is a lot slower and more methodical... sometimes, she can come off as a little bit condescending, but she mostly wants to make sure that you understand the things already shown off before moving onto something else. If you don't have a firm grasp of the material that's already been explained (...sort of), you can't very well proceed to other things that might depend on that knowledge.

So, it's normal if you find yourself thinking "I already know this!" when Alice comes around. Especially around now, because we've basically only done "one" thing... even though that thing was composed of explaining several interrelated things... but who's really keeping track here? (Alice is. You have been warned.)

It's also equally normal if you find that Bob really glossed over things that you weren't really ready to move on from or had some lingering questions. Alice has that covered, and that's why it's a very good thing that you get the same material covered in different degrees by two distinctly different teaching styles.

The hardest part about teaching something technical is that not everyone will have absorbed the same details as effectively no matter how you present it. Offering to go over it in different fashions for different styles of learning might seem "annoying" to some people, but for others, it will be the vital difference between understanding and just not getting it. And this will be much more crucial when things start to get more complicated than running a cable between a person and a button.

This is actually one of the fundamental advantages of teaching in a semi-interactive format rather than reading it out of a guide or a book or what have you.

And just in case you didn't think there was already enough of her, Alice also has a guide. Alice's Guide, in fact. Even if you think absolutely everything to know about something is out and in the open and can't possibly get any clearer or more thoroughly explained... Alice outdoes herself.

These segments are totally optional, mind you, but they get added every time something big and important gets covered, in case you wanted to do some more digging or get some extra information on the topic.

Alice's Guide: The Basics

Well, except for this one. This one isn't optional. I'm pretty sure, anyway.

It's a good thing too, because "The Basics" isn't really going to be covered anywhere specific... they're just too basic!

What I mean is the "boring" stuff like scroll and zoom on your workspace. Bob's stuff will just throw you straight in and stat explaining what all the little doodads and person-thingies are in front of you... but do you think he ever stopped to ask if you knew how to move around in the virtual space?

Therefore, in case you ever needed to know how to do... literally everything that Bob's going to more or less do FOR you in an effort to keep the lessons constrained and focused, this is the place.

To be fair, even Alice is guilty of this, but it's a good thing to avoid making the controls be the part you're struggling with when you're learning about technical mumbo jumbo like... whatever it is she wants to talk about now, I wasn't really listening. Obviously.

But at least she's ADMITTING that she took those considerations away from you. Before throwing them back in your face. Because you STILL have to know how to do this stuff, right?!

Checkpoints - An Introduction
Make the Person Jump

Hey! Did you do your homework? Ms. Alice checks that kind of thing. Seriously. Don't get caught without it, or you're in for a scolding... or... um... a re-explanation of the subject matter, 'cause we're not going out to recess to play our games until she's sure you're ready to move on to the next lesson.

She calls it a "puzzle"... but mostly, it makes sure that what you learned most immediately is all still up there and fresh in your mind... ... ... because we're totally going to use that for other things!

In this case, we really only got a dressed-up game-focused lesson on how to make a Person jump. Because that Person couldn't jump. We couldn't finish a simple platforming game segment without that!

So, for now, it's just a matter of making sure you understood the relationship between Button, Person, and Jump.
