But for real this does bring up a bigger issue. You can look at it with a form of the frog boiling in water analogy. Oblivion did the horse armor, and was the blunt of the joke for years to come, but still made an insane amount of money off it. So other game developers started doing it, easing players into it more and more, and it became more and more standardized. Sure there are games sometimes where players think it's "too far", like Oblivion, like Star Wars Battlefront II, like Dragon's Dogma II, but notice how much that line of "not okay" has shifted SO FAR from the 2006 Elder Scrolls Oblivion where that line used to be. So many major game studios are shifting that line to be more and more anti-consumer, and from time to time they'll take a step a little bit too far than they can at once, get criticized for it, and need to roll back a bit. But what the industry learns is NOT to not do that thing players thought was too far, but to ease into it slower. And before you know it that thing everyone once thought wasn't okay will become standardized.
This is the way things will continue to go unless a dramatic shift happens in the gaming sphere as seems to be happening with the rise of AA and indie games, with more and more players getting fed up with the modern state of AAA gaming.
