2Fame and glory await you in Westeros, in Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming, the officially licensed free-to-play browser game based on the epic fantasy series by George R.R. Martin. At their Netmarble Together with Press event, Netmarble has revealed plans to develop an open world RPG using the Game of Thrones IP, in partnership with HBO Studios. Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. The landmass of Westeros, you see, is sort of an amalgamation of Britain and Ireland, inverted and stacked up on one another. A narrow sea, or channel, separates the continent from a far larger landmass to the east. In the north, an ancient wall separated putative civilization from the barbarous wild beyond. Castle Ward in County Down is the real-life location of Winterfell. This beautiful 18th-century mansion in Northern Ireland is worth touring even without its impressive GOT film history.
In an interview for HBO, 'Game of Thrones' star Conleth Hill confirmed that the exteriors of King's Landing were filmed in Croatia white the interiors were filmed in Northern Ireland. However, the King's Landing gates are in Malta and the road from the landing, the Dark Hedges, are in Northern Ireland. The Anglo-Saxon Settlement of Britain had “colonies” that resemble the map of Westeros. Westeros is much bigger than Britain, though: about 3,000 miles from the Wall to the south coast, about six times the distance from Aberdeen to London. But Westeros is not just a badly drawn Britain, nor a mirrored version of its land mass (two popular theories).
