Everyone has probably heard by now that the Xbox Games Pass will begin including Xbox exclusives the day that they are released. This includes Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and Crackdown as well as future entries into franchise titles like Halo, Gears of War, and Forza. This is an amazing deal for gamers everywhere giving you access to plenty of titles for only 9.99 a month, but of course not everyone was a fan. Especially retailers. One German outlet reports that Australian retailer Gamerware has stopped selling Xbox One units telling Microsoft “if you want to do business alone you should work alone” and warning that “consoles will bring zero profit only expenditure.” Well Gamerware Gamestop and Toys are us have shuttered hundreds of stores in the last year alone so I think you have bigger things to worry about than Game Pass. Also throwing shade at Microsoft probably isn’t the smartest move.

Most recognize the positive aspects of Xbox Games Pass However. Phil Spencer obviously does and briefly mentioned the possibilities for single player games and has already seen some interest from studios who are waiting to see how the service works out. Based on responses I’d guess it’ll be a success.

Speaking of successful, the Sea of Thieves beta went off without a hitch and everyone loved it this weekend. Okay there were a few problems with people getting in and having to cancel pre-orders to enter, but the response was so huge that Rare had to tell people the servers were literally full and to try again in an hour. This success was mirrored on twitch which saw concurrent viewer numbers rising above 150k and surpassing other popular games like Monster Hunter World, Fortnite, PUBG and even League of Legends and Counterstrike for a time.

In addition to all of this great news, PUBG has hit over four million players. There was also a sixth content update for the game adding new bug fixes and stabalization. Oh it still runs pretty bad in the beginning on a standard Xbox so I highly recommend an X if you're going to hop in. Celebrating this mlestone players will be rewarded with 30,000 battle points to buy cosmetic items for anyone who purchases PUBG before January 31st. Bonus points will arrive February 1st.

Finally Anthem was delayed as BioWare is feeling extra pressure as a studio to get the game right. Both the Edmonton and Austin teams are focused on the project and according to Kotaku many employees think “the company’s future is inextricably tied to the game.” It’s likely we’ll see the delay until March 2019 and yes we are getting a beta

By the way Games for Gold will include

Shadow Warrior feb 1-18
AC Chronicles India feb 16 - mar 15
Split Second feb 1 - 15
Crazy Taxi Feb 16 - 28

That’s it for this week and I’ll see you next time.
