Being able to save at anytime can be fine but it doesn't always work. Whilst in games that are split up into a series of individual challenges, we can usually expect auto-saving to work. However there is a value in a game where you have a limit to saving, whether this be only being able to save at certain locations or using up some sort of currency in order to save. Whilst auto-saving in games can lead to a game with a large element of risk, limited save points means that we have to be more careful in our approach to conquering the game's challenges. If we disallow games to implement this, then we ultimately end up limiting games to those with smaller (though not necessarily easier) challenges.
