The Nintendo Switch 2 just launched, and some unlucky fans are already dealing with broken consoles — but not because of how they handled them. Multiple reports have come out showing that certain GameStop locations, specifically one in Staten Island, were stapling receipts directly into the front of the Switch 2 box. The issue? The screen is packaged right at the front with almost no protection — just thin cardboard and a flimsy plastic sleeve.
As a result, staples have been puncturing the actual screens of brand-new consoles before they’re even opened. Some fans found out the hard way after attending midnight launches, only to come home to a damaged Switch 2. Photos and Reddit posts show this happening to dozens of customers, many from the same store.
GameStop has responded, saying they’re investigating the issue and will "make customers whole," but the internet isn’t happy — and people are also pointing fingers at Nintendo for the packaging design itself.
This is not how Switch 2 launch day was supposed to go.
