Welcome to a new series! Every year, I'm going to look back and play a selection of games that were released 30 years ago. The purpose of this show is to give context into how gaming has evolved over the past three decades, to look into what was being produced, and to try and determine whether these are still games worth playing.

For this, our first season, we are looking back towards 1991, a year that brought us the official end of the Cold War, as well as Operation Desert Storm and the end of the Gulf War too. Hubble was successfully launched, and Taiwan had their first free elections since reestablishment of government. Michael Bolton got the Grammy for "Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male" for his delivery on "When A Man Loves A Woman"; Terminator 2 was released, as well as Silence of The Lambs, for the more horror inclined amongst you. And Cheers was still popular... Man, those were the days. Oh, and the Super Nintendo was released world wide! Which is far more pertinent for our purposes. The Genesis / Mega Drive had been released by SEGA in 1989, so Nintendo had some catching up to do. How will they fare?! ...Not exactly a suspenseful question, but I'm doing my best here.

In this episode we check out Streets of Rage! Unlike Sonic, I remember having a ton of experience with this series through arcade machines. I was quite young back then, but I distinctly remember Streets of Rage being a big thing around these parts. And I'm really excited to check this out, specially since now I am in a position to contrast it with Final Fight, which I played earlier in the series. How will it fare?! Let's find out!
