60Has Gaming Become The New Religion? This is from an the off-the-cuff rant I had about how as Western civilization moved away from religion, our tendency to worship and believe migrated onto video game franchises and gaming companies. Segments of the fanbase can become zealots and fanatics, and will do all they can to silence any criticism about their favorite games, no matter minor or legitimate the criticism may be.
We now have the Church of Square, the Church of Bandai Namco, the Church of FromSoftware, and so on. It's easy to wake people up to this though. Just tell them to imagine how they'd feel if their most hated company did the same thing as their most beloved. Hopefully this is an interesting discussion about where our culture is at.
