The Gaping Dragon is one of the easiest bosses in the game if you do your homework. You can indeed make it more difficult if you don't kill the caster upstairs but that's not generally recommended.

Beyond that this fight will take a long while if you use a small un-upgraded weapon like me. Seriously, upgrade your weapon if you want this to go faster. This fight should NEVER take as long as it did here. XD
