On December 30, 2021, I learned that my best friend, Owen, took his own life. Owen was funny, smart, caring, and very talented. He made me laugh. He made me feel like my life was worth living in a time where I felt like it didn't. I looked up to him a lot. When he died, I felt like my whole world stopped spinning. I ended up dropping out of university and spent the next three years trying to recover.
Traumatized by his death, I avoided everything that reminded me of Owen and went full "survival mode". I'd like to write more about my experiences with grief and my feelings surrounding Owen's death. Unfortunately, I don't think YouTube is the best place to share such delicate, personal details. Maybe I'll get a blog soon. Just know that I'm still grieving and coping with his death.
This level is themed after one of Owen’s best works. “HACKENBUSH: a window to a new world of math” is an educational video on combinatorial game theory. The animations, writing, and music were all done by him and it really shows his genius and passion. I started making this level back in August, working on it whenever I mentally and emotionally could. I put lots of thought and care in this level. I could write an in-depth explanation on why the level is built the way it is, but I think I will just let it speak for itself for now.
This is my best Geometry Dash level. I've always wanted to make something for him, but my trauma and depression would always stop me. Despite everything, I powered through and put my heart and soul into making something for someone I love. I’m proud of what I made and I know Owen would be too.
