George Gershwin was an American composer and pianist. His best-known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue (1924) and An American in Paris (1928), plus various songs and jazz standards. The 3 preludes are more on the classical side, but they clearly blend in many elements of jazz from the time. This piece was difficult and rewarding for me due to its quick arpeggios, parallel octave chords, syncopation, chromaticism, and a fast pace (though I am far from the prescribed tempo.)
