Suikoden II has a trading mechanic that you can make money off if you know what your doing, but in order to recruit Gordon from Gregminister you need to earn 50,000 through trading. Rather than figure out the trading system, if you go north from the cafeteria in the HQ, you reach an outlook where laundry is being done. If you talk to the soldier dead center by the cliff, you actually gain access to a minigame. Why this minigame isn't tied to a Star of Destiny is anyone's guess, but sometimes the $10,000 game with offer a Gold Bar as a 1st place prize. If you win 2 of them, you can trade them in at either Rokkaku Hamlet, Highway Village in Matilda, or Crom in the Tinto Area. Once you've traded two of them for more than 50,000, this counts so go talk to Gordon and he'll join your party!
