6When it comes to horror games, I've always said that the Japanese know what they are doing. There's just something about Japanese horror that cuts right through the bravado and stabs right at the heart of peoples fears. I suppose when you've lived for thousands of years where the state religion tells you that there are literally unspeakable horrors behind every corner, the kind of stuff we come up with in the West must seem rather trite.
Enter Getsu Fūma Den: Undying Moon, a rogue-like metroidvania, which takes inspiration from the yokai of Japanese folklore and delivered in the beautiful and unsettling traditional ukiyo-e art style. You play as Fūma 27th leader of the Getsu clan, Hell's gates have been swung wide open and all the monsters and demons are set free to bring havoc and despair to Japan, and it's your job to close them again!
