Guns: Give them a shot.

Guns in shogun are incredibly powerful. A hit is almost always a kill, even against very high armour units, and their flat trajectory lets them get a lot of hits when they can fire. Their disadvantages are their very slow rate of fire and that relatively short range, as well as a high chance for friendly fire. Still, learning how to set up and use matchlocks is important, even if you don't plan on taking them.

Matchlocks work well as both a deterrent keeping cavalry away from one of your firing arcs. When actually used to get kills, they can really chew up a force that's charging into you, and in this case were a good unit to get a constant stream of powerful shots, set up behind and to the side of my line.
