GH3 vs E-P5 - SHOOTOUT - PEN EP5 or Lumix DMC-GH3? You decide...
188By request, the GH3 vs E-P5 in a shot for shot video shootout.
Olympus PEN E-P5 vs Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH3.
Presented without commentary for your own decision making... both cameras have their strong suits.
Both Cameras were operated with the same exposure Settings, Same white balance setting, Same exposure metering setting (centre weighted), Both set to "vivid" default colour profile.
Lenses used; Olympus M.Zuiko 12mm f2 ED & Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f1.8 Primes.
All shots are straight out of camera, no additional colour correction, grading or fiddling with the image of any kind
Olympus shot at 30FPS (the only option) - GH3 @ 25fps (nearest best match) You may notice the juddering in the Tilt & pan shots from the EP5... this is NOT how it looks out of camera... It is just the result of dropping frames to match the GH3's 25fps file.
Try not to focus on that, Instead look at the dynamic range, sharpness, detail, etc. as these CAN be fairly compared in a video like this.

Both cameras were shot using the best AVCHD setting available (the only option for the Olympus), higher bit-rates ARE available on the GH3 in the MOV recording mode, but for these tests I figured setting both to the AVCHD mode would be sufficient, as the subject matter and method of shooting would doubtfully benefit visually from the higher bitrates in MOV on the GH3 - and it would have no effect on colour, dynamic range, moiré patterns and the like...
