In Ghost of Tsushima spielen wir den namensgebenden Ghost, der als letzter überlebender Samurai seine Heimatinsel vor den einfallenden Mongolen verteidigen will. Das Setting des Spiels und seine Geschichte sind tief verwurzelt in der Japanischen Kultur, doch das Entwicklerstudio, Sucker Punch Productions, sitzt in Bellevue, Washington, also den USA.
Doch wie viele andere Serienschöpfer, Entwickler, Autoren oder Filmemacher war auch Sucker Punch Productions von japanischer Kultur so beeindruckt, dass sie beschlossen, ein Spiel in diesem Setting zu entwickeln. Damit sind sie jedoch bei weitem nicht die einzigen.
