The notorious stairwell seems insurmountable mainly because the price of the sound generator seems to most players too steep to even attempt—but if you’re recklessly fast in most of the driving stages you will indeed have enough time. (Unless you mess up the ghost-catching stages very badly you’ll always make more money in them than you’ve lost from hitting cars; what you *can’t* afford to lose is time, since the PKE meter will eventually max out and cause a game over.) I personally like to get myself equipped with the anti-ghost suit, the ghost food, *and* the sound generator. This first part of my video walkthrough shows how to do so.
