Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels: How to Win Without Cheating (4 of 6)
The lack of audio is due to weird technical issues. I'll try to have it fixed by the next series of uploads.
This video takes us through the end of world 7. The reason why I suddenly have so many more lives is because, due to some problem with my computer I don’t understand (it may have to do with video length—yet my Contra video was longer) two of the videos I shot failed to upload. I was worried that I would have to either go through the whole game again or risk people thinking I was pulling some trick and this wasn’t a real no-cheating playthrough. Yet through an extraordinary stroke of luck those two videos just so happened to be the two you don’t need anyway, since they just show me doing the same thing I was doing before—grinding for extra lives by repeatedly traveling across the coin heaven in 4-1. I think I went overboard and spent too much time doing this anyway, seeing as I completed the game with twenty-something lives still left.
This game was specifically designed to be ultra-difficult since it was originally intended as a sort of special advanced mode for the original Super Mario Bros. game. (But you’ve all heard the story before, so very many times. I highly doubt the part of that standard story wherein the reason for the game not originally being released for the U.S. market was that it was too hard for us poor ignorant Americans, aw shucks; when have you EVER heard of a game—an NES game, no less—not coming out because it was too hard?! I mean, for crying out loud, they made “Battletoads” and “Bayou Billy” *more* difficult for us! But otherwise you know the story. And if not you can Google it easily.) The game is supposed to *feel* impossible, perhaps, but it’s not. People speed run this thing. There are ways. Usually the key is to ask whether you’re going too fast or too slow. When you make a mistake in this game it’s usually because of one or the other.
