This is a video I've always wanted to try because I never really played DOOM style games on my A1200 I bought on launch day because later I had to have a PC for my uni course applications so played them on that in 94.

First thing to say my laptop can not record the screen (or use built in capture of WinUAE) and play the game properly at the same time (set as 680EC020 @ 14mhz stock as sold for £299 when 386 PCs were £999) so the framerate of the video is about half what you see when playing this in WinUAE with the same settings. Later on I killed the sound and it speeded up a little but not to full speed when using screen capture sw. Sound is also not scratchy when playing it without recording the screen at the same time.

So my thoughts? Well on a standard A1200 it works just fine in full screen mode if you set rendering to 2px and it looks fine. It is just as playable as Doom on a 386 PC costing 300% the price of an Amiga 1200 a year after launch. So really I have to say all this talk about stock Amiga can not play a good Doom style game is rubbish. With one of the new ACA 28mhz CPUs this game would run as well as a 33 or 40mhz 386 PC at the time. The issue is that it uses a joystick and I am now so used to mouse for playing FPS games like Battlefield that is more the issue than any issue about speed and framerate on a 14mhz Amiga 1200 really. A software design issue nothing more.

Oh well myth well and truly busted!!! :) Now go and get this running on your real A1200.

I may try doing this video again at 320x200 capture or something.
