Here’s my top 5 tips for new players who are currently enjoying Gloria Victis.
Number 1: Get in amongst the fight – I’ve noticed a lot of new players waiting in the rear when there’s a large battle going or during a siege – Now this is fine if you are covering a player who might be stam’d out or low health, but if you aren’t doing that and just lingering around, get in the fight. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have the best weapons or armour, so long as you are helping you are winning!
Number 2: Join siege events – These events help your nation and they help you learn how to defend or attack castles. If you can’t join the siege event because there are too many defenders or attackers, use the Logistician and move closer to the fight – You can’t move to the villages adjacent to the castle being defended as this is considered the “Frontline” – the best thing to do is go one castle over and then use your mount to get to the group.
Number 3: Read Chat – Even though it takes your attention away from a fight, the chat is actually quite an important factor. The reason it’s important is because it’s the only way your party will be able to communicate with each other. Keep eyes on chat for Party leads asking for a Regroup or to attack/defend.
Number 4: Use Axes on Doors – I’m seeing a lot of new players using up their Swords, Spears, Maces and even Knives to hack down a door. Don’t do this, get yourself a 1-handed or 2-handed axe and POKE at the door, it seems silly but its actually faster and does similar damage as an overhead Swing to the door!
Number 5: Fight, Kill, Wipe, Loot in that Order. When it comes to the loot zone, you want to fight the enemy, kill the enemy, wipe the enemy group and then loot. If you loot mid fight you will die and you will get looted. Its important to try and keep your hands off corpses until you know the area is clear. I know it’s hard to not pick at bodies whilst the whole group is fighting, but 1 less person in the fight and creates a power advantage for the enemy group.
