God of War (commonly referred to as God of War 4 or God of War PC is a third-person action-adventure video game in development by Santa Monica Studio and to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. God of War 4 is available for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 consoles and PC. It will be the eighth installment in the God of War series, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010's God of War III. The story is a new direction for the series, as it will be loosely based on Norse mythology all previous games were based on Greek mythology. Series protagonist Kratos returns as the main character, and he now has a son named Atreus. Kratos acts as a mentor and protector to his son, and has to master the rage that has driven him for many years.

This series offers combo-based combat, and includes a quick time event (QTE) feature, also called context sensitive attacks, which is initiated when the player has weakened a foe or to perform a defensive maneuver. It allows limited control of Kratos during the QTE cinematic sequence; success ends the battle, while failure usually results in damage to the player. As well as the QTE system, Ascension features a prompt-less free-form system, allowing players the choice of when to attack or dodge based on the enemy's actions. A grab maneuver can be used on minor foes. 2022's God of War changed this up; after an enemy has been weakened enough, a prompt will appear above its head, and depending on the enemy, Kratos may rip it in half or grab them and throw them into other enemies, among other possible outcomes. He will also jump on top of and ride large enemies, such as ogres, causing them to attack other enemies, similar to the cyclopes in the Greek games.

Weapons in God of War 2022 include: Leviathan Axe, Runic Attack Gems, Grip, Talon Bow, Runic Summon and more! Armor in God of War 4 include: Chest Armor, Wrist Armor, Waist Armor and Talismans. The type of Skills you can gain are broken into skill trees such as Leviathan Axe, Ranged Combat, Close Combat, Guardian Shield, Shield Combat, Rage Combat, Talon Bow, Magic Combat and Expert Combat. Throughout the God of War story there are many things to collect like Artifacts, Treasure Maps, Shrines, Hidden Chambers, Special Items and Idunn Apples.

Many years have passed since Kratos took his vengeance against the Olympian gods. Having survived his final encounter with Zeus, Kratos now lives with his young son Atreus in the world of the Norse gods, a savage land inhabited by many ferocious monsters and warriors. In order to teach his son how to survive in such a world, Kratos must master the rage that has driven him for many years and embrace his newfound role as a single father and mentor. Kratos must also contend with the Norse gods themselves as they are taking precautions against him, due to them being aware of his role in the destruction of Olympus. Over the course of their time together, Atreus learns more about his father's complicated and shady past, while struggling with whether to be like his father or choose to be his own person.
