God of War Ragnarök is an Action-Adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released worldwide on November 9, 2022, on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and is the first crossover version in the series. It will be the ninth installment in the God of War series, the ninth chronologically, and the sequel to God of War 2018.

Ragnarök is set in the world of Norse mythology but expands on the previous game's narrative, focusing more on exploration and open-world gameplay. While God of War (2018) allowed the player access to six of the nine realms of Norse mythology, an expanded Ragnarök focus sees the player explore each of the nine worlds, including new additions to Svartalfheim, the industrial headquarters of the dwarves; Vanaheim, the fertile home of the goddess Vanir; and Asgard, the golden land of the goddess master. Midgard, the primary world in the 2018 version, is high on features but is now a frozen wasteland, drastically altered by Fimbulwinter, a three-year winter that began at the end of the previous game. Lake Nine, which was previously navigable by boats in the previous game, is now frozen. Svartalfheim can be explored to the same degree as Midgard in the previous game. Alfheim, Helheim and Niflheim return with an expanded focus and character exploration.
Three years after the events of the previous game, Fimbulwinter, a wonderful winter spanning three seasons, is coming to an end and the predicted Ragnarok will begin. Kratos and his teenage son Atreus begin crossing the Nine Realms to find a way to stop Ragnarök as they attempt to uncover answers behind Atreus' identity as Loki. Their journey will lead them to Tor, the Norse god of war. It will be their struggle with Thor, the Norse god of thunder.
