perhaps going active duty after the completion of BCT, and high school?

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

Once you sign a split op contract, you're stuck in the national guard or army reserve with very little possibility to go active.
When you sign that contract, you're owned by the national guard or army reserve, they have numbers to retain, and there's very
little chance they'll let Private Snuffy leave as soon as they arrived to the unit. Its unrealistic to expect.

If someone told me any of that after I met my recruiter, I stubbornly wouldn't believe them, he was in the army, he knew what
he was saying right?

This thought process severely hindered my military career and trapped me in the army reserves for three
years. After talking to local representatives, congressmen and senators, I was able to get out, unfortunately this isn't always
the case, a dd368, which requires to be signed to leave, rarely gets approved at a division level.

If you're in a similar position, wanting to join the military as soon as possible, wait. Wait to go active duty, and for the
job you want. For my impatience, I have to repeat BCT, as I'm going from a cook to Infantry. I was told that being a cook
would be easy to get out of, and I could easily just switch over to Infantry. Thats the most told lie to cooks, as I've met
multiple in my same position, whom were unable to transfer their MOS or go active.

If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't go split op. Don't fall into the same trap.
