Goodsprings from Fallout: New Vegas recreated in Far Cry 5.
The desert town of Goodsprings is a town in the Mojave Wasteland of Fallout: New Vegas. It serves as the starting point and tutorial area for the game.
Many consider Fallout: New Vegas to be the pinnacle of the Fallout series. For me, it is Fallout 4 (Mojo Swoptops and base building?!) but this game was also a lot of fun.
To me, the creatures in New Vegas' wasteland were scarier and far more challenging. Everything felt more hostile, dangerous and ultimately the survival aspect was stronger, making Goodsprings a respite for the player throughout the game - a place of safety in an otherwise deadly environment.
With the ability to place dynamic wildlife in the Far Cry 5 map editor, every walkthrough I did of this level was different. In this specific take for example, the bull decided to wander down the central street, making for an interesting moment on camera, however sometimes when I walked the exact same route he remained in the field I initially placed him in!
I love these moments in video games, and the wildlife behaviour in the Far Cry 5 map editor compliments and reflects these same moments which frequently present themselves in Bethesda Softwork's reactive and seemingly breathing environmental masterpieces.
Sometimes recreating these iconic locations in video games allows me to connect to the artists behind them and gives me a greater understanding into it's development. Before I started this recreation of Goodsprings, I didn't fully remember much of what it was like being in the town for the first time in Fallout: New Vegas, but now, I feel like I've been there in real life. It feels real, if only for a brief moment. And that is the beauty of art.
This scene took around 6 hours to build in the Far Cry 5 in-game map editor on Xbox Series X. Enjoy.
