Google Pixel 3 (& XL) Camera vs P20 Pro vs Pixel 2 XL
We review the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL camera tech by comparing with Huawei's P20 Pro and last year's Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, to see how Google has improved the photo and video quality - if at all - and if these new mobiles can topple the mighty P20 Pro as the best cameraphone of 2018.
For this camera comparison, I shot dozens of test photos and video clips with the Pixel 3 and XL, as well as the Pixel 2 XL and Huawei P20 Pro, over the course of a few days.
The Google Pixel 3 sports the same camera hardware as the Pixel 3 XL - a 12.2MP single lens camera with f/1.8 aperture, plus OIS. That's the same basic specs as last year's Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Meanwhile the P20 Pro boasts a mighty 40MP RGB lens with f/1.8 aperture, backed by a 20MP monochrome lens with f/1.6 aperture. Not forgetting the 8MP telephoto lens too, with 3x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilisation.
Unsurprisingly, there's not much difference between the new Google phones and last year's models, although we're still waiting on the arrival of the Night Mode.
