El Gran Premio de Japón es una carrera de automovilismo de velocidad que se corre en dicho país como parte del campeonato de Fórmula 1. Su lugar tradicional al final del calendario hacía que en este evento generalmente se decidieran los campeonatos. De los primeros 19 Grandes Premios que se disputaron en Japón, en 12 de ellos se decidió el título mundial (1976, 1987-1991, 1996, 1998-2000, 2003, 2011 y 2022, siendo el de 1976 en Fuji Speedway y los 11 restantes en el Circuito de Suzuka).
Alain Prost y Ayrton Senna protagonizaron las ediciones 1989 y 1990 cuando disputaban el título de pilotos, en ambos casos con abandonos luego de colisiones entre ellos. A fines de la década de 1990 y principios de 2000, Michael Schumacher mantuvo grandes duelos con los rivales de turno, en concreto Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen y Fernando Alonso.
En 2007 y 2008, el Gran Premio de Japón regresó a Fuji, ahora perteneciente a Toyota. Luego se definió una rotación entre Fuji y Suzuka, pero la crisis económica de finales de década motivó a Toyota a dejar de albergar la carrera en Fuji, de modo que Suzuka volvió a ser sede permanente.

The Japanese Grand Prix is a speed car race that runs in that country as part of the Formula 1 championship. Its traditional place at the end of the calendar meant that championships were usually decided at this event. Of the first 19 Grands Prix held in Japan, the world title was decided in 12 of them (1976, 1987-1991, 1996, 1998-2000, 2003, 2011 and 2022, being 1976 at Fuji Speedway and the 11 remaining at the Suzuka Circuit).
Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna starred in the 1989 and 1990 editions when they were fighting for the drivers' title, in both cases with retirements after collisions between them. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Michael Schumacher had big duels with his rivals, specifically Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen and Fernando Alonso.
In 2007 and 2008, the Japanese Grand Prix returned to Fuji, now owned by Toyota. Then a rotation between Fuji and Suzuka was defined, but the economic crisis at the end of the decade motivated Toyota to stop hosting the race in Fuji, so Suzuka returned to be the permanent venue.
