My Grand Theft Auto 4 walkthrough continues with the First Date mission which introduces you to the whole friends/activities thing in this game. Basically, the more you take friends out for activities, the higher your 'like' stat with them is. If you keep the 'like' stat for a particular friend above a certain level than you'll be able to use their special ability.

I really enjoy shooting pool with Roman (I actually find it very relaxing) but I largely ignore the friends/activities thing and I get by just fine.
